Jay Trace Obituary

Jay William Trace, 73, of Cedar Knoll, Coatesville passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018.
He was the son of James and Florence (Bailey) Trace. He graduated from S. Horace Scott High School, class of 1965.
Jay served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. Following his honorable discharge, Jay worked at the Coatesville VA Medical Center for 15 years. After retiring from the VA, Jay started his own business making wooden toys. He became a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. His wooden trains, cars, trucks and horses brought smiles to the faces of children everywhere. Jay also worked as a bus driver for Kraft Bus Company and most recently delivered flowers for the Coatesville Flower Shop.
Jay was a lifetime member of West End Fire Company #3 where he often used his love of cooking to prepare food for different events. He was also a member of the Brandywine-Goddard Lodge #383, the Coatesville Moose Lodge #397, and the Christiana American Legion.
Jay also enjoyed riding his Can-Am Spyder motorcycle. He was a member of the Coatesville Moose Riders group and never missed the Bike Festival held every September in Ocean City, Maryland.
Jay enjoyed gardening, building, and fixing everything. He grew the best tomatoes, built a beautiful pond, and enjoyed entertaining friends in the "party shack" that he had just updated.
Jay is survived and greatly missed by his wife of 42 years, Dee Backstetter Trace. He is also survived by his sister, April (Manning) Stauffer; as well as a number of nieces and nephews and a great niece and several great nephews and extended family. Jay also leaves behind a large group of friends with whom he shared many good times.
All services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jay's honor to the West End Fire Company #3, 134 Strode Ave., Coatesville, PA 19320 or to Moose Charities, In Memory of Jay William Trace, 155 SN International Drive, Mooseheart, IL 60539.
