Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Gail Orr Reiter.

She was the wife of Harold Pawling, who preceded her in death in 1995, having shared 48 years of marriage.

Dorothy was a 1940 graduate of Coatesville High School being the first graduating class in the new Scott building.  After graduation, she worked for the Coatesville VA Hospital during the war.   After their marriage and starting their family, she devoted her life to raising their children and doting over her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a past member of the Episcopal Church of the Trinity, Coatesville where she was very active with the Altar Guild.

Sewing, quilting and gardening were hobbies that she enjoyed her entire life.  Upon moving to Simpson Meadows, she often did tailoring for some of the residents.  She also filled her time reading, doing puzzles and traveling; having been to England, Spain and Morocco.  When the children were younger the family traveled to California and back by automobile twice.

Surviving her are five children; Thomas C. Pawling (Patrica) of Charlotte, NC, Carol P. Cochran of Coatesville, PA, James L. Pawling of Las Cruces, NM, Beverly Jacobsen (Brian) of Mount Laurel, NJ, and Shirley DiNorscia (Joseph) of Landenberg, PA. Thirteen grandchildren, Melissa Walker (Brandon), Rachel & Neil Pawling, Sara Lymberis (Nick), Lauren Todd (Brad), Kate D’Amato (Chris), Diane Reeder (Bryan), Jeffrey Pawling, Dana Coughlin (Will), Scott Jacobsen, Erin Edelman (Scott), Joseph DiNorscia (Danielle) and Rebecca DiNorscia Guida (Vince). Twenty great grandchildren, Lauren & Blake Walker, Olymbia, Sophia, Gregory & Alexandra Lymberis, Ava, Grant & Brady Todd, Isabella, Lucas & Amelia D’Amato, Taylor & Chase Reeder, Sadie & Molly Coughlin, Brynn & Joseph DiNorscia, and Zachary & Ryan Edelman.  She is also survived by two brothers, Charles Reiter and Lawrence Reiter (Frieda) and a brother-in-law, Edward Pawling.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Richard Reiter, Wilmer Reiter, Sarah Arnold, Marybelle Witmer, David Reiter and Mildred Reiter; her son-in-law, Chester Cochran and an infant daughter, Mary Kristin.

She called Simpson Meadows her home for the last 21 years.  We would like to thank the staff, nurses and aides at Simpson Meadows for being helpful, kind and compassionate.
