Kevin Mountain Obituary

Kevin L. Mountain, 64 of Coatesville, died on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at his home; where he was cared for by his wife and children during the final days of cancer-related illness.  Born in Everett, Pennsylvania, he was the son of James A. and Sarah G. Mountain.  Kevin graduated from Everett Area High School in 1980 and earned an Associate Degree in Mortuary Science from Northampton County Community College in 1983.  Kevin moved to Coatesville in 1987 and married Rebecca Carlin Mountain.  He worked in funeral service for 43 years, serving the Coatesville community as Funeral Director and owner of the Harris-Mountain Funeral Home since 1994.  Kevin was honored to serve the community’s families through times of loss by providing compassionate, dignified and respectful funeral and remembrance services over the years.

Kevin was a quiet, private person who preferred spending his time at home with family and friends. He was a gracious host—you could find him in the kitchen preparing food for all.  His children advised their friends, “If Dad is cooking, just take what he offers.  He won’t stop until you do.”  Kevin’s family affectionately called him the Italian Grandma. His other favorite pastimes included attending sporting and school functions for his children during their younger years, motorcycling with his wife, watching sports and NASCAR racing with family, and spending time with family and friends on the Chesapeake Bay. He could often be found with a book in hand, having accumulated an expansive collection of Library of America books. He loved the great American writers and was known to make many quick-witted references to literature and film alike.

Kevin was a member of Doe Run Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon, Elder and on the Pastoral Nominating Committee.  He was active in the Coatesville community as a member and past board member of the Western Chester County Chamber of Commerce, Coatesville Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and honored as 2017 Rotarian of the Year, Brandywine-Goddard Lodge #383 F. & A.M., and was involved in early days of the Coatesville Town Watch. Additionally, he was a former member of the Coatesville Country Club.  Professionally, he held memberships in various funeral director organizations and was respected among his peers in funeral service.

In addition to his parents and wife Rebecca, he is survived by two children: Hunter J. Mountain of Coatesville and Meredith Carlin Mountain Blackwell and husband Robert G. Blackwell of Harrisonburg, VA.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 17th at 1:00 p.m. at Doe Run Presbyterian Church, 3104 Doe Run Church Road, Coatesville.  A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Promptly at 12:45, a Masonic Service will be conducted prior to the start of the funeral. Interment will be private in Doe Run Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Echo Hill Outdoor School 13655 Bloomingneck Road, Worton, MD 21678  https://www.ehos.org/donate
