Marlene Karmilowicz Obituary

Marlene Antoinette Karmilowicz, 82, of Coatesville, passed away Friday, November 19th at home with loved ones by her side.  She was the beloved wife of Jon Karmilowicz with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.  Born in Coatesville, she was the loving daughter of the late John and Nellie Lahm (Pacana).

She was the loving mother of Jon (Chris), Kimberly (Charles), Lynn and Susan (Kelsey); and grandmother to Lauren, Sara, Hailey, Nick, Meredith and Michael.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Norman Karmilowicz who, along with his family, loved her.

After graduating from Scott High School (Class of 1957), she was employed at the Lukens Steel Mill in Production Control.  With the money she earned, she bought her own car, a 1960 white Mercury convertible with red interior and a Cherrywood bedroom set.  She went on to become a busy homemaker and a wonderful Mother.   She loved driving her children and their friends to all their sporting events and activities.  There was always a hot meal at dinner time and presents under the Christmas tree.

She was also the President of the Polish American Citizens Club for a number of years.  Mom cherished the friendships and the dear women of the P.A.C.C.

She enjoyed the outdoors and could sit on her front porch for hours.  She enjoyed travelling to South Dakota, Montana and California (to name a few).  She loved taking drives thru the local countryside, looking for deer and having lunch at Shady Maple.  At 7:00 p.m. you knew Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune would be on the TV.  She also enjoyed watching baseball and football; reminiscing of walking from the West End with her mother to watch the football games.  She crocheted many a blanket in her day and was famous for her Apple cake.

Mom thought of others before she thought of herself.  She honored her elder relatives.  Caring for her own parents and visiting with cousins.

Mom was a strong, beautiful and courageous woman.  She stout-heartedly fought cancer and dementia.  She was brave and showed so much courage in the face of adversity.   She was resilient, developing her own coping mechanisms.  Mom never gave up and fought for life till the end.  Her bright smile and sincerity could break your heart and did infinitely so.

Listening to her talk of her childhood memories and whatever else was on her mind was privilege and an honor.   Those memories and her advice will be cherished.

Mom is truly an inspiration, a beautiful soul.
